£8,000 Body and Sole award supports Glasgow schools

In February 2020, the Incorporation of Cordiners presented an £8,000 Body and Sole award to support pupils in schools across Glasgow.

The presentation took place at St Bernard’s Primary School. It was the second footwear donation of that school session and built on the programme’s growing partnership with Glasgow’s education and physical-activity teams.

Outdoor learning in every season

Hundreds of pairs of wellington boots allowed pupils to keep taking part in outdoor lessons and the Daily Mile when Glasgow weather made ordinary school shoes unsuitable. Body and Sole also provided sports footwear for school activities and helped young people undertaking the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award.

The award captured what the programme was designed to do: remove a practical financial barrier before it becomes a reason for a young person to miss an opportunity.

A programme that kept growing

What began in 2017 continued through the pandemic and developed into a city-wide partnership. By 2026, Body and Sole had supplied more than 9,000 pairs of footwear.
