On Friday 2 February 2024, Deacon David McClements hosted the Incorporation’s Choosing Dinner in the Trades Hall of Glasgow.
The annual dinner brings members and guests together to celebrate the life of the Craft, welcome the Deacon’s guests and look ahead to the charitable work of the coming year. The evening’s speakers included the Right Reverend Sally Foster-Fulton, then Moderator of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland.
A Glasgow tradition
The Choosing Dinner is one of the occasions through which the Cordiners’ centuries-old civic traditions remain part of the Incorporation’s modern life. It combines fellowship and ceremony with a renewed commitment to the charity, education and footwear projects supported by the Craft.
David’s year as Deacon also continued the Cordiners’ friendship with fellow craft bodies beyond Glasgow. Later in 2024 he represented the Incorporation at the annual festival of Basel’s Shoemakers’ Guild in Switzerland.
