Body and Sole: the 2026 report

The 2026 Body and Sole report shows how an idea rooted in the Cordiners’ footwear heritage has grown into a major programme supporting children and young people across Glasgow.

More than 9,000 pairs of footwear

During the period covered by the report, from 31 May 2024 to 31 May 2026, Body and Sole helped provide more than 9,000 pairs of footwear. The programme supports participation in physical education, sport, outdoor learning and activities where the cost of suitable shoes can prevent a young person from taking part.

The headline figures

  • Body and Sole was established in 2017.
  • More than 9,000 pairs of footwear were provided during the 2024–26 reporting period.
  • Donations recorded for 2025 totalled £24,391.50.
  • By 2026, £161,905.50 had been allocated to footwear since the programme began.
  • Support has included trainers, sports footwear, walking boots and footwear for outdoor and school activities.

Participation, confidence and belonging

The value of Body and Sole is not measured in shoes alone. Having suitable footwear allows young people to join their classmates, try new activities and enjoy the physical, social and emotional benefits of taking part.
